Update – June 2022

We are now in the process of issuing invoices to groups attending the Suffolk Punch activity days.

Please add your participants to EMS before the end of June. Bookings close 1st July.

If you have any questions about your booking, please contact the event team.

How do the Activity Days work?

Suffolk Punch 2022 is a large Jamboree-style camp taking place between 11th – 15th August 2022.

The main camp is for Scout, Explorer and Network sections, but we wanted to include some of our younger members in the event, so we’ve created the Suffolk Punch Activity days for Beavers and Cubs.

There will be three separate activity days available which groups can book onto. We will provide the programme (more info below), so all you need to do it get yourself and your young people there on the day.

The Basics

Suffolk Punch 2022 is a new event for Suffolk Scouts, following on from the unfortunate cancellation of the Suffolk International Moot which had been planned for Summer 2021, but was halted due to the pandemic. Some of the SIM planning team decided that it was necessary to push forward with a new, local event, with an additional motivation to reunite the county following a long time apart.

Who can attend the Activity Days as a participant?

The Suffolk Punch Activity Days are aimed at Beavers and Cubs between the ages of 6 and 10.5.

When are they?

Friday 12th, Saturday 13th, and Sunday 14th August 2022.

Where are they?

Hallowtree Scout Activity Centre, Ipswich, IP10 0JP

You can find out more about Hallowtree here.

While you may have visited previously, at this event you will see Hallowtree how you’ve never seen it before!

Programme

Participants in the Suffolk Punch Activity Days will get access to some of the main event programme, as well as some dedicated activities for their age group.

Beavers and Cubs will be grouped into four clusters, with each rotating around four different areas.

Circus Skills – Professionally led – Taking place outdoors and also within our very own big-top!

Adventure Zone – Deep in the Hallowtree woods – Sledges, fire-lighting, backwoods cooking and more Scouting favourites!

Craft Village – Harnessing creative skills to make some scouting souvenirs using new and old techniques

Explore Punch – Exploring the main event in small groups and taking part in some of the core activities on site

At the end of the day, all activity day participants will get to enjoy a professional circus show featuring a variety of acts and performers.

Please note, this programme may evolve over the next few months. Keep an eye on the website for any updates.

Event Fees

Fees for the activity days are as follows:

Participants (Beavers and Cubs taking part in activities): £20

Leaders: (leaders and other adults accompanying a group for the day): Free of charge

We have carefully considered the pricing model for this event, taking into account the financial situation faced by many people following the pandemic.

Our primary focus was the participant cost. We have kept this as low as practically possible so as to remove the barrier of cost barring any young person from attending.

This amount covers the programme items as well as venue and facilities hire. It doesn’t include transport (more about that below) or food (participants should bring a packed lunch).

Transport

During our initial consultation with leaders, some groups said that one of the barriers to their attendance could be the issue of transport.

As a planning team, we have explored several options including providing transport, and we have concluded that the cost of providing transport to all attendees would have had too big an impact on the participant price (which could create an even bigger barrier to attendance) and that the best option for everybody is for us to facilitate transport at a district and group level.

Have a look at the Transport Toolkit we have created to help groups get to-and-from Suffolk Punch.
